Colloidal silver for neurodermatitis
Silver has an anti-inflammatory effect on neurodermatitis.
The term neurodermatitis comes from the 19th century. At that time, it was assumed that the cause of the skin disease was nerve inflammation. This view was later refuted, but the term has stuck. Today, however, people tend to talk about atopic dermatitis or atopic eczema.
The name atopic eczema makes it clear that neurodermatitis is difficult to define. Translated, the term simply means “pathologically changed skin without a clear reason, not only in typical places”. The attempts by scientists and doctors to explain the disease and the appearance of the disease are correspondingly varied.
Infection
The very sensitive and often cracked skin of a person suffering from neurodermatitis is susceptible to infections. A characteristic phenomenon for the skin of people suffering from neurodermatitis is the sometimes massive colonization with Staphylococcus aureus. By triggering weeping skin reactions, these bacteria lead to improved environmental conditions for staphylococci with further bacterial growth and thus to an increasing deterioration of the skin condition through a mutual reinforcement of both disease processes, a so-called vicious circle, a self-perpetuating process.
Finally breaking the vicious circle
In symptomatic treatment, it is particularly important to break the vicious circle of “itching – scratching – skin injury – inflammation – renewed itching”.
The use of silver can contain the inflammatory reactions triggered by microorganisms. One option – which can be quite expensive – is special antimicrobial textiles (underwear, bed linen, elbow pads, mittens, etc.) with metallic silver, which have been used successfully for several years to relieve the symptoms of neurodermatitis. These special textiles are made of silver-coated microfibers and are also available in baby sizes.
The other option is the use of pure colloidal silver, such as Silverlin. A cheaper method recommended by dermatologists.
Regularly spraying the affected areas or taking them orally can be helpful.
