Storage and shelf life
How should you store colloidal silver and how long does it last?
How should colloidal silver be stored?
One question we are asked again and again concerns the optimal storage of colloidal silver. Keep it away from magnetic and electromagnetic fields – that means the refrigerator is off limits, as is the place on your loudspeaker or computer. In principle, it is hardly possible to protect it against radiation such as mobile communications, radar, etc. However, no negative influence has yet been identified in this regard. In addition, protection from constant light, especially sunlight, is important. Short-term influences have little effect on colloidal silver. Storage in a basement would be ideal, but storage at room temperature in a place protected from light (for example in a wardrobe) is usually sufficient.
How long is colloidal silver durable?
Basically, colloidal silver has a remarkable ability: it can hardly spoil because germs have no chance of surviving in silver water. The botanist Robert Brown discovered something fascinating: during his microscopic examinations, he noticed that pollen grains in a drop of water move incessantly. This so-called Brownian motion occurs because tiny, invisible particles constantly push against the pollen grains.
Colloidal silver shows a similar spectacle. Here, it is the electrically charged silver particles that repel each other and thus remain in suspended motion. Over time, however, the electrical charge of these particles gradually decreases. If stored for a long time, silver can be deposited on the walls of the container or bottle, thus reducing the concentration. This mainly happens with plastic bottles, while our brown glass bottles perform much better.
So it is wise to use dispersions that are as fresh as possible. But don’t worry: under optimal storage conditions, our colloidal silver remains of the highest quality for up to eight months.
